Reality... Can game be the escpae route?

When people think their lives are harsh, they imagine of escaping reality. People imagine of their ideal lives and take a rest from those imaginations. In some cases, people just take in lives as if they are living in their imaginations. One of those people would be the main character in the film Ben X, Ben. Ben takes in his life as if he is playing games. In his cyber life, he is strong and powerful. On the contrary, in real life, he is just a weak student who gets bullied by other students. I thought that this dissonance in real life and game caused him to see the matters around him as a game because he wants to be as strong as he is in game.
Can we say that the type of action Ben has taken is wrong? I believe we cannot. What I have realized during the movie is that it would be too harsh to take in the hard reality just as it is. In Ben’s case, Ben’s reality of being disabled and bullying make Ben suffer. Ben, in retaliation, makes his weapon, which unfortunately he never gets to use for real, and makes up an imaginary girlfriend Scarlet. Before his imaginary friend arrives, Ben tries to suicide but at the moment he tries to, his imaginary friend saves him. I viewed this scene as Ben’s rebirth and beginning of his revenge towards the bullies. With his imaginary friend, he starts on a project which he films. He shows the fake scene which looks as if he jumped into the sea. Then, he shows the bullying scene he has gone through. When everybody is shocked, he reappears from the back of the stage, enjoying his revenge. His imaginary girlfriend Scarlet stays with him until the end of the film.
I have imagined about what I would do if I were in the situation similar to Ben. Maybe I could have just run away or maybe I could have confronted the bullies. I do not really know. However, what is sure is that I really need a lot of courage to stand up against the society. Since such is the case, I believe that using imagination to make the reality look a little bit easier or less harsh is not wrong. Rather, I would say it is clever to do so. If the reality is harsh, people do not have to take the reality as it is. Rather it would be easier to take in sweeter reality mixed with imagination.
In film Ben X, Ben uses his imagination as a shield against the ugly society which bullies him. Using his imagination, he takes his revenge on bullies and lives a happy life later with his imaginary girlfriend. With use of imagination, people can take in the twisted reality less ugly. It is clearly not wrong to do such an action since people have the right to take in the reality as they want to.

Death Sentence...Why?

Hey James, it is me Jenny. I am really happy I married you. Do you feel the same? I hope you do… (Tear mark) I really wished we could live happily forever or at least go to heaven together but I guess God won’t let us do so. Do you remember the day you first met me? I was standing at the hallway packing up my stuff and you were walking with your friends. When our eyes met together I felt really strange because I have never felt anything before when my eyes met with others’. We took one class together out of numerous classes unfortunately but it was you who took the first step of our relationship. You asked me if I wanted to do the class project with you. We two always went together and I felt really happy that I was becoming closer with you. It has been 10 years since we met James. And I don’t know. Why is this happening to us? Why us? Does it have to be us?

I guess we have to make the best of the time given to us. That is the reason why I wanted to go out and walk around and play with you. You told me I was very different today and asked me what happened. Nothing happened to me, James… But WHAT is going to happen to us? Do I have to just pretend as if nothing is going to happen? Do I have to tell you the truth? Do I have to try really hard to make the best of the time left for us? I do not know James… I don’t know anything. What do I have to do? I just hope everything is just a dream and when I wake up I hope it will be just another normal day without any sad happenings.

Plot for the story

Plot: A successful young man is going to die in 5years and he does not have any idea about it.
His wife knows the truth but decides to act as she does not know anything about his sickness.
The wife first feels sorry towards his sickness but as time passes she changes(in what way is not decided).
My name is Jenny. I live in an apartment with my husband James. I can say that I am living a happy life because my husband is very rich and handsome. We have never felt any destitution of anything since we can buy anything we need. I could not imagine what could ruin our lives until today. When I got the news, I was shocked and did not know what to do about it. I have thought about telling my husband who is the one directly related to this. However, I had a second thought coming up to my head and decided not to inform him even an inkling about this.

Game and reality. What is real?

After watching this film for a short time, I thought that this film was very novel. I thought that the technique of emerging reality and game was really new and funny. However, the film itself was kind of hard to take in since the film depicted the uncomfortable reality. The main character had autism and he took in the reality as a game. Maybe taking in reality as a game is his self defense mechanism, I thought. The life was harsh for him. He wanted to escape and the escape route for him was to take the reality in as a game.

Dying Young

4. Dying Young. Write a fragment of a story about a character who is relatively young (under 40), who will die in a few years, but has no inkling of this. You, as author, do, though, and let that knowledge affect this brief 500-word story however it will affect the story.

Massacre. Is it really?

Massacre. Is it really?

From the past, questions regarding animal rights have arisen. Following those questions, numerous public materials have been made about the problems regarding animal rights. The film ‘Earthlings’ is also about animals. The film exclusively depicts how inhumanely animals are treated. Most parts of the film are taken secretly since the factories and other facilities do not want their inner parts to be unveiled. The film definitely shows how cruelly animals are treated but the questions regarding validity and effectiveness still exist.
Pathos, an appeal to the emotions, is the main device used in this film. This way might be viewed as effective, but the use of this device makes people unable to make logical decisions. The film appeals to people’s feelings making people to decide based on their sudden impulses. Since the film depicts how pathetically animals are treated, people focus on pathos rather than logos. Slanted importance on pathos mars the film’s validity. People should be able to decide in a neutral state of mind, not a curved state of mind. Moreover, the places filmed provoke the question of rationality again. The facilities shown in the film are clearly guilty for their wrongdoings, but the number of facilities shown in the film is definitely small. Thus, the generalization is not to be made easily by only looking at the small numbers of facilities. As I was watching the film for the first time, the thought that was mainly ruling over my mind was that I should stop eating meat. The reason for the thought was that the scenes were depicted grossly. The animals were killed by electronic shocks coming through the mouth to their abdomen, by beating, and by putting holes in their brains. Anybody watching those films would not think about eating meat during the film. However, after watching the film, I had a second thought coming into my head. I thought that not all meats are produced the way the film depicts. This is because the parts shown in the film are only small parts of the facilities treating animals. Therefore, I believe that the film lacks its support in validity and efficiency, since the film focuses too much on pathos and the film depicts only limited parts.
When reading books or watching films, people think about the topics from their own perspective. Likewise, I thought about the materials went over the film in my view. First, like most of the people, I thought about not eating meat at first. Unlike the thoughts I had at the first time, I found myself walking to the cafeteria and eating meat with thoughts that not all meat is killed the way depicted in the films running through my head. The scenes in the film made me think about genocides of animals. The seals, foxes, and other animals are decimated for people’s convenience. The idea of an animal decimation exists thoroughly through the film. However, animals die in large numbers naturally. The earthquakes, sudden changes in climates, and other natural catastrophes result in large numbers of animal deaths. Although the behavior of facilities in the film is wrong, the burden of guilt should not be given to those facilities just for the reason that they have killed large numbers of animals. If the burden was to be given for the decimation of animals, natural disasters should be given the same burden, too. Why not for natural occurrences but only for humans? Thus, the question regarding the basis of the guilt given to those facilities needs to be solved. Maybe the facilities are guilty for killing large numbers of innocent animals. However, maybe the animals can be killed since humans are at the top of the food chain. It is common sense that stronger animals kill weaker animals. The same logic is applied when the animals are killed. Humans kill the animals for their convenience because humans need them for food and warmth. In nature, lions and tigers kill zebras and cows for their food. As do lions and tigers in nature, people kill seals, cows, and pigs for food. Thus, the facilities are not as guilty as the film depicts since it is natural for top notch food chain animals to consume bottom level food chain animals.
To sum up, I do not agree to the film overall, since the film lacks validity and effectiveness. The validity is debunked because the places shown in the film are only the small parts of the facilities. Moreover, many people do not change their behaviors just because of the film, since they acknowledged the fact that not all animals are killed as cruelly as the film depicts. The film fails to logically appeal to people to change their behaviors because the film mainly focuses on appealing to people’s feelings. Finally, the burden of guilt is not as great as the film shows because the basic notion of chain food, stronger animals kill weaker animals, applies to people as well.
